What Bush's invasion of Iraq would look like had it happened here at home.

Can you imagine the whole state of West Virginia (pop 1.2 million) being "Collateral Damage" by some foreign military?

Chris,
Don't you think this is a little slanted? I don't know if using percentage of population is a valid way to draw the comparison.

Also, couldn't we pretty much live without the red states anyway?

Is the comparison slanted? I wouldn't say so. Its cross multiplication. Saying 1/2 is 5/10 is 10/20 is essentially saying the same thing.

Put that in perspective -- how many innocent people have we killed over there for no good reason? Enough to make us look like well intentioned liberators who're making the best of an unfortunate situation, or a brutal, repressive occupying force that cares only about them selves and their regional interests, and are to be feared/hated more than the insurgents?

Secondly, do you really buy into that whole "red state / blue state" division? Do you think that maybe that's part of the two party dog and pony show that's preventing real change from happening in this country? Do you think electing candidates on division 'cultural issues' such as gun control, abortion, gay marriage, flag burning is important?

None of those issues matter when you compare in scope how vitally important a rational foreign policy and a sound fiscal policy is to the welfare of the state and its people. The rest of the song and dance is just a con job to make you vote for them without any critical thinking.

Chris,
Here's what I mean with the slanted comment.

First, comparing like proportions is not the same as comparing like values. Yes, 1/2 = 10/20, but 10 is an order of magnitude greater than one.
Is the death of 4% of the state of Texas (my home state), to compared to 4% of the world? Proportionally, yes, but the latter is a far greater loss.

Also, the graphic is slanted because it uses large sparsely populated states for emphasis. All the red states on your graphic, could be represented by a comparatively small dot over Houston.

(My comment about red states was a jab at the red states in this map. I wasn't talking about the red vs. blue states. I'm with you - that's bullshit.)

As far as Iraq goes, it's a total cluster. I want to get our forces out of there ASAP, but I am afraid it will make things worse.

Peace,
the other CW
