The Senator Prank
This guy's prank site is the best. On it, you'll find him scribbling anything on his credit card receipts -- from drawing a grid, to writing "Zeus" to "I stole this credit card" as his signature.
But this prank, in particular, I found to be one of the funniest. Posing as a 10 year old boy who wants to grow up and be a comedian, he writes a letter to each of the 100 senators, asking them to send back their favorite joke. He then posted all their letters and held a vote -- who is the funniest and unfunniest senators. Santorum, one of my senators (unfortunately) didn't send a joke. He sent a cop out letter. John Kerry is apparently the 3rd funniest Senator.
The results are pretty good. So if you've got the time to check it out, I definitely recommend it. The credit card prank and the RIAA prank are worth the time too.
So give it a read, and leave me some comments.

Nicely Upgraded
I just upgraded my mac. And while its still nothing to sneeze about by anyone's modern standards, its noticably faster. There aren't as many page outs, so I can keep applications open longer and longer. And it won't be as slow in multi-user mode -- so my friends with Accounts on my mac won't feel as much as second class citizens when they use it.
All in all, well worth the $70

I want these, even if I can't justify them
When I was surfing over to minidisco to check out headphones with short chords (in case you had a remote, and didn't want 4 feet of chord just dangling from your pocket) and found these.
Noise cancelling headphones from Sony for only $60 + S/H. That's a pretty good deal. The problem is, I just don't use my iPod enough to really justify the purchase....yet. Also, I should be saving my money for a security deposit, not for noise-cancelling headphones.
But rest assured, they're on my wish list.

I found my old holy grail of the net again
I finally remembered my favorite site. It had been so long since I was a regular, that I had completely forgotten about it until today at work.
Its a site that puts all other sites to shame.
It was one of the first and still one of the most original weblogs.
It tells you what time it is in Australia.

poem, unnamed
I said I love you in the dark;
while silence was your answer
I would gladly blot out the stars on the horizon
if only such an impossible task
could stop me from feeling your tears on my cheek
when the shadows creep out from the wall
when such a time comes
I will shine once more
bright enough for both of us
while silence was your answer
I would gladly blot out the stars on the horizon
if only such an impossible task
could stop me from feeling your tears on my cheek
when the shadows creep out from the wall
when such a time comes
I will shine once more

Feed The Wall
This is a really awesome fan tribute site to Johnny The Homicidal Maniac. If you've read the comic, this is worth checking out.
I found this site out while browsing Big, Fat, Stinking Software. Its a place that has a few nice mac freeware apps. I'm still playing around with some of them. The Speed Freak seems like it could be semi useful, if only my computer was a little faster. And if you could have a "blacklist" of applications you would like to not re-nice. Because you don't really need to run AIM any faster then usual. Ever.

Update Needed For Safari
I've been having some problems with Firefox lately. It was crashing unexpectedly, something it hasn't done for months. I assumed that maybe all this summer heat had damaged my over-clocked computer. After all, before I purchased an air conditioner, it was so hot that I could barely fall asleep. I figured the heat was causing thermal failures -- its not like I have temperature sensors installed on this old machine. G3 processors don't really put out much heat, so Apple didn't spend too much time designing a cooling system for them (like they do now with G4 and G5s, which are borderline space heaters).
So anyway, I started using Apple's web browser, Safari. I liked it at first, but found its compatibility was limited and it was a memory hog. There were some updates that addressed most of my issues, but now, while I'm using it, I find that its compatibility is still poor. It doesn't even render parts of the blogger dashboard properly, and Google has been saying its trying to design web sites that will be Safari compatible.
In short, Safari needs an update. Soon.

Ultimate Went Well
We lost both games today, but we played hard. We only lost by two points each game. It was a scorcher today. I played hard, and actually got pretty involved offensive. I still need work on making my passes better, and knowing how to work with my team better, but we're getting pretty solid. We haven't had any official practices yet. I'm probably gonna start to drill myself with a few of my teammates on Sundays to get a little bit more disc handling practice in.
All in all, I love ultimate frisbee. I've never been so tired out, so determined, and so exhilarated at the same time. Its just a rush to play.
And now that I've got cleats, I'm pretty good.
Erin and Julie both pulled something, but I'm hoping it was relatively minor, and that they make full recoveries for next week's game.

Anti Lock Breaks
Anti Locks Breaks are a good thing.
They will be on my next car.
Today coming back from work, I was carpooling with Rob., and Rt. 60 south was a disaster area. The new pavement gave about as much traction as ice. A lot of rear-end car accidents. We got lucky and avoided accident.
Right now, some asshole has parked people in my building in. So I and my roommate have elected to call and get his car towed. We don't pay good money to live here so somebody with an extra long body Dodge RAM 1500 truck can park us in.
I'm too burnt out to write. More later.

Vanago Madness
I saw Vanessa today! Hoo-ray!
I was wrong to doubt her friendship. I walked her to class, or at least partway.
1 Week before my first circuits exam. I need to get my ass in gear.
And its what I'm going to be doing after work all this week. And I'm working 10 hour days.
I'm excited that payday is coming so soon. I will be able to pay off everything I owe my roommate, and I will be able to give Pitt some of its money. Grr....damn tutition.
Well, if I didn't have to spend money on tutition here's what I would buy:
A 1.0GHz processor upgrade for my trusty old B&W Mac.
And because a fast processor is only good with fast I/O to back it up, A Serial ATA card with RAID array options which I would pack with 10000RPM drives. And I would max out the RAM on this little chipper to 1GB.
And I would want this for the graphics department
I know its definitely crazy to spend all that money on upgrades. Their combined cost totals more then what I paid for this thing on Ebay. But its still cheaper then a G5. I guess its more a point of honor then anything. I want to push envelope with this machine. I'm sick of hearing the tired old line of "You can't upgrade Macs". Mac Towers can be upgraded as much as any old PC. And while it costs more money then I spent on this old clunker, its my money, and I'm going to have plenty in 3 or 4 months, and this stuff will come down in price in the time being.
And now i have something to look forward to besides using my paychecks to pay off bills. And I gotta sleep. Peace.
