Training Day

I haven't been blogging very much because things have been pretty much same old same old. Things with the SO are good. Work isn't making me go gray, nobody in my family seems to be getting sick, and things have settled into a routine.

A nice quiet, peaceful routine.

So I'm trying to change it up a bit. October, as I've previous mentioned, is national christopher wilson awareness month. So here are the improvements I'm trying to make this month.

Early Riser: Its doubtful that I will ever be a 'morning person'. But I know I'm shooting myself in the foot by working 9-5 when the majority 7-3. Also, I just find myself lazier the later it gets: I don't like working out as much at 6 or 7pm than I do at 3pm or 4pm. So I'm going to make an effort to go to bed earlier, and wake up earlier.

Cut Down: I'm switching to a cardio-intensive, long-distance training routine at the gym. There was a 5K race this past saturday, and I chickened out of it. I only gave myself a week prep time, and I was sick thoughout most of the week, so I was setting myself up to fail. When I woke up at 7:30, it was dark out, rainy, and cold.

So I just went back to bed.

Now I'm doing about 3-4 miles a day on the treadmill, and focusing on training for muscular endurance. So far, for day one, I'm at least meeting my goals.

Geekery: I'm going to try to geek out more. That goes without saying. I'm also going to try to relax more -- by listening to more of my music while I work and when I work out.

Moved To Dreamhost

I finally moved from my old hosting company to one that provides more bang for my buck. I've been meaning to do this since november, but I just really didn't want to deal wit hassle and disruption it would cause soapbox.

Well, since soapbox traffic has been slowing down, I moved to a new host. The list will be up and running shortly.

350th Post Spectacular

Well, I've just hit a new record: 350 posts on to this blog.

The reason for this post is I just recently discovered that the WV holiday, Bridge Day, where the New River Gorge Suspension Bridge is closed down for a whole day, and BASE jumpers are allowed to jump off it, requires that you have experience with 50 other BASE jumps before you're allowed to jump on Bridge Day.

There goes the 25th birthday present I was going to give myself.

And there goes anyone's chance of knowing I could possibly plummet to my death in front of loved ones and family in an act of youthful defiance anytime soon.

Eventful day

I was finger printed today. Not because I broke any laws. The other reason software engineers are finger printed. The good one.

I'm also back at the gym with a new regularity and vigor. Nothing beats a good lift.

Yesterday was the 5th aniversery of 9/11. I really didn't want to deal with the media frenzy. So I didn't watch any TV or listen to the radio all day.

But I got a text message from the Prather. It basically said this:

Bad news. Today's Iraq body count was high. More soldiers have died in Iraq than people killed in 9/11.

Doesn't that just suck?

This past weekend my washing machine broke, and it leaked all over the kitchen floor. It ticked me off so much I picked up a pack of cigarettes. I smoked half the pack. So this monday I ran my ass off. Its been a while since I've hit a runner's high. It feels good to push myself like that.

I have new pics on myspace, for those who check my profile. Mostly they are pictures of my kittens.

I'm sick of my rimless glasses. They're a hassle. The lab screwed up and gave me the wrong color. I have a purple frame. It doesn't look as good as the black. But I can't just exchange them; they're rimless. They have to go all the way back to the lab.

So I will be wearing a pair of glasses from 8th grade for another 4 days again.

I obviously don't have much to say at this point. I'm kinda ticking off a laundry list of little things. I've been living the quiet life. I've been more honest with people. I've been less apologetic for my values. I've been thinking more, and just appreciating the little things. So I might not have the most exciting, brillant things, awe-inspiring things to say right now.

But I've got a smile on my face. So its all good.

Kitties!

I rescued two kittens today from my workplace. Someone abandoned some kittens.

So I rescued them. Pics coming soon. They're both girls. They're 5 weeks old, and they don't smell bad after I gave them a bath.

They meow a lot.

But its awesome, one turtle, two kittens. Our apartment has gotten pretty lively.
